New Walmart Mastercard with EMV chip technology.
Here are some answers to some questions regarding “new” card.
What are chip cards?
Chip cards are like the card you have today, but include an embedded microchip. The chip contains information that is encrypted, making it extremely difficult for the card to be copied or counterfeited. Your chip card will also have the usual magnetic stripe on the back so you can continue using your card while merchants are transitioning to new terminals.
What are the benefits of chip technology?
The embedded microchip provides strong transaction security features and other application capabilities not possible with traditional magnetic stripe cards. A chipcard is extremely difficult to counterfeit.
Why is my card being upgraded to a chip card?
Chip technology is already used in other countries and now coming to the U.S. Your new chip card provides an extra level of security and is easier to use at international locations.
How is this card different from a magnetic stripe card?
A chip card looks just like traditional credit cards with an embedded chip in addition to the standard magnetic stripe on the back of the card. Rather than swiping your card, you will insert your chip card into the terminal to complete the transaction.
How does this technology work?
When you insert your card into the terminal, the chip in your card communicates with the terminal to determine whether or not the card is authentic. The terminal will prompt you to sign your name. During international transactions, the terminal may prompt you to enter your PIN instead to validate your identity. Once approved, your transaction will be completed. If you are planning to travel internationally and you don’t have a PIN, call 866-611-1148, 24 hours/7 days a week, at least two weeks in advance so we can mail your pin.
Are chip cards new?
Although chip cards are relatively new in the U.S., they have been used elsewhere for many years. In some countries, particularly in Europe, merchants may be more familiar with accepting chip cards.
Where can I use my chip card?
Use your chip card at the exact same merchants you do now by inserting the cardinto terminals that are chip-enabled or by swiping your card at merchant locations that have not yet switched to chip-enabled terminals. You can also continue to use your card as you did before for online payments, telephone payments and at ATMs.
Does my Walmart MasterCard have a PIN number?
A pin won’t be required at Walmart today, but may be required if the card is to be used internationally.
Walmart Credit Card Login
Most Walmart credit card customers login to their account to pay a bill, see statement history, check balance, and review reward points. Some credit card companies have an Apple iPhone app, Google Play store and Android app market place application to login to their credit cards.
What is my PIN number?
Once you receive the system-generated PIN number on your chip-enabled card, you will have the ability to change it to a number that is easier for you to memorize. If you forget your PIN, don’t have a PIN or want to change your current PIN, you can call customer service at 866-611-1148, 24 hours a day/7 days a week.
